Electrify Now

We are a movement of business groups, think tanks and civil society organisations united by a mission: to accelerate the rate and rollout of electrification, and fast-track our renewable, electric future.

WHY ELECTRIFY?

3X

more energy efficient than combustion-based energy

$1T

up to $1 trillion in additional costs to the global economy from exposure to fossil fuel price spikes

92%

of countries have 10x more renewable potential than they need to power their economies with clean electricity

75%

of the world’s energy demand could be met with electricity

4X FASTER

To build a resilient energy system, we must more than quadruple the current rate of electrification, moving from around 21% of final energy consumption today to 35% by 2035.

This might not sound like a big change, but because of the efficiency of using electricity, this will make giant strides to move away from fossil fuels in our energy system.

And the sooner we move, the faster we can enjoy the benefits of home-grown, affordable and secure renewable electricity.

DELIVERING OUR ELECTRIC FUTURE

Fast-tracking our electric future means accelerating the adoption of electric technologies across our homes, buildings, transport and industries, coupled with continued investment in renewable energy, grid expansion and modernisation, and energy storage.

It is time to mobilise governments, businesses, industries and civil society everywhere to fast-track our electric future.

“Electrify everything, as much as you can, electrify everything.”

Fatih Birol

Executive Director, International Energy Agency

António Guterres

Secretary-General, United Nations

“It's time for us to think about electrifying everything.”

Sharon S. Garin

Secretary of Energy, Philippines

“Countries that have invested substantially in solar, wind, batteries, and electrification are weathering the present disruption with measurably less economic damage.”

Francesco La Camera

Director-General, International Renewable Energy Agency

“Every additional investment in renewables, electrified transport, buildings and industry is an investment in security.”

Bruce Douglas

CEO, Global Renewables Alliance

“At present, electricity accounts for roughly 20 percent of final energy consumption. We must aim to raise that share as much as we possibly can. As we do so… we must ensure that no one is left behind.”

Murat Kurum

COP31 President-Designate and Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, Türkiye

“Higher oil prices are putting pressure on all our citizens from Suva to Sydney to Stockholm. No one can sanction the Sun, no one can blockade the wind.”

Chris Bowen

Australian Climate Change & Energy Minister and COP31 President of Negotiations

“Electricity is becoming the operating system of the global economy. For businesses, clean electrification increasingly means less risk linked to fossil fuel volatility, lower costs and greater resilience.”

Maria Mendiluce

CEO, We Mean Business Coalition

“WE ARE AT THE DAWN OF A NEW AND CLEAN ENERGY ERA. AN ERA WHERE CHEAP, ABUNDANT, RENEWABLE ENERGY POWERS A WORLD RICH IN ECONOMIC POSSIBILITIES.”

Antonio Guterres

Secretary-General, United Nations

“ELECTRIFY EVERYTHING, AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, ELECTRIFY EVERYTHING.”

Fatih Birol

Executive Director, International Energy Agency

“COUNTRIES THAT HAVE INVESTED SUBSTANTIALLY IN SOLAR, WIND, BATTERIES, AND ELECTRIFICATION ARE WEATHERING THE PRESENT DISRUPTION WITH MEASURABLY LESS ECONOMIC DAMAGE.”

Francesco La Camera

Director-General, International Renewable Energy Agency

“IT'S TIME FOR US TO THINK ABOUT ELECTRIFYING EVERYTHING.”

Sharon S. Garin

Secretary of Energy, Philippines

“AT PRESENT, ELECTRICITY ACCOUNTS FOR ROUGHLY 20 PERCENT OF FINAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION. WE MUST AIM TO RAISE THAT SHARE AS MUCH AS WE POSSIBLY CAN. AS WE DO SO…WE MUST ENSURE THAT NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.”

Murat Kurum

COP31 President-Designate and Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, Türkiye

“EVERY ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT IN RENEWABLES, ELECTRIFIED TRANSPORT, BUILDINGS AND INDUSTRY IS AN INVESTMENT IN SECURITY."

Bruce Douglas
